Roadmap
Hardware that works the first time.
Software got easy to build: anyone can describe an app and an agent writes it. Devices are still hard and an AI-drawn board that looks right often is not. We are building the compiler for hardware: you say what the device should do and you get a board that is proven to work before it is made.
The plan
From an engine for agents to the check before every order.
- 01
Now: the engine for agents
An agent writes the design, PCBKit places, routes, checks, runs the firmware and decides. Free in the browser, in Claude Code, Codex, Claude and ChatGPT and as a CLI.
- 02
Next: the check companies require
The CI gate on every board change and a report attached to every fab order that anyone can re-run, with the error rates of the checks that made it published.
- 03
Then: compliance from the design
Insulation distances for safety approval, the design half of a CE technical file, RoHS and REACH from the parts actually ordered: evidence handed to the lab, not a lab day lost.
- 04
The aim: boards that work the first time
For hardware, a property like “the program never crashes”: in every state the device can reach, every part stays within its datasheet and the physics holds. The datasheets and physics are the spec; the person writes none.
Goals
Big goals, measured.
Each goal is measured on its own benchmark. The right column is where it stands today, not a promise.
| Area | Our goal | Today |
|---|---|---|
| Agents | Every wish finished on the first try, a verified board in under a minute and ten tool calls. | 12 / 20 held-out wishes finished first try; median 47 calls, 462 s. |
| Verification | At most 1 % false findings and at least 95 % of real defects found, on human and agent boards. | Finds real respin faults at KiCad’s rate or better with a tenth of its false alarms; together, today’s checkers find only 16–21 % of them. |
| Ordering | Agent-designed boards ordered with no human review and none of them coming back broken. | The gate and the order record are live; the first boards designed in PCBKit are in the mail, with predictions written before they arrive. |
| Parts | Every part on every board certified against its maker’s drawing, starting with the 10,000 most used. | 905 of 1,230 registry parts certified. |
| Routing | First on every other router’s own benchmark, at its own rules. | Ahead on ten rival benchmarks; behind on a few rows we are working on. |
| Placement | Complete every board the designers complete, at least as compact, in less time. | Shorter copper and fewer vias than the designers where both complete; they still complete more boards (1,149 vs 1,055). |
| Firmware | Every board’s program proven against its board at every corner. | 39 / 39 registry processor boards meet their expectations at −40 °C, 85 °C and both supply ends. |
| Interface | A live board in under a second on any phone and the place people choose to review an agent’s board. | First frame ~1 s on a phone profile; the review shows each finding’s evidence. |
